Rotary celebrates women

Rotary Sunrise will celebrate International Ladies Day at a special meeting at 7am, Tuesday, 8 March, at Grand Old House.

Past Assistant Governor Sophia Harris will address the group.

International Women’s Day, as others call it, is now an official holiday in 27 countries. With this tradition, men honour their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc., with flowers and small gifts.

In some countries the day has the equivalent status of Mother’s Day, and children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

Thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements.

In the United States, the entire month of March is designated as Women’s History Month. This year is the 100th anniversary.

To make a difference, Rotary Sunrise will recognise and honour the female members of Rotary Sunrise and other invited Rotarians, Rotaractors and guests.

Cayman National Hero Sybil McLaughlin and Marie Beatrice Taylor, and Governor Duncan Taylor are also expected to attend.
