art at cafe

Full of Beans’ Artist of the Month for July is Katherine Chiazza, who uses a unique style to capture the beauty in nature. Katherine gains her inspiration from colourful trees and elements in nature, along with places she has visited – both of which are reflected in her work.

“I paint on canvas with oil using a knife,” she says. “I like to paint in layers, creating texture and using bright colours for a dramatic effect.”

Emerging artists featured

Full of Beans has been featuring an Artist of the Month since 2005, showcasing works of local artists such as Sue Howe, Debbie Chase van der Bol, Maureen Lazarus, Greg Lipton, Scott Swing, Pat and Robert and Shirley the Batikers, Kaitlyn and Kathryn Elphinstone, Karen Coles and Betty Lou Hendrickson.

“We run the art exhibits in order to provide a venue for new or unknown local artists to get the opportunity to showcase their works in a comfortable, unpretentious environment,” says cafe owner Jeff Wilson. “As opposed to galleries, we prefer to find new talent that are often overlooked by the mainstream art community.

“We are proud to debut the first public showing of many of our artists. Often times, this experience at Full Of Beans has been the catalyst to pursuing their passion for art on a full-time basis,” says Wilson.

Katherine has showcased her work locally only about four times; the feedback on her exhibit at Full of Beans has been positive. “I’ve been delighted with my art exhibit at Full of Beans,” she says. “I have received lots of positive comments and several requests for custom pieces.”

Wilson notes that Katherine “has a fresh colourful style with acrylics and has a great enthusiasm and energy.”

Each Artist of the Month displays from the first Tuesday of the month until the first Monday of the following. Katherine’s work is on display until 1 August. Next up is the work of Darvin Ebanks, from 2 August until 5 September, with an exhibit of land and underwater photography.

Local artists who would like to exhibit their works can get in touch with Full of Beans to discuss Artist of the Month opportunities.

“I have this year booked and am starting for 2012. Always excited to discover fresh new talent,” says Wilson.
