Tobacco dealers urged to renew registrations

A leading public health department official is again reminding tobacco dealers that have not applied to renew their registrations with the Cayman Islands government to do so as soon as possible.

Dr. Kiran Kumar, the Cayman Islands Public Health Department’s medical officer of health, said the annual registration renewal fees are $500 for a retailer; $750 for a cigar bar; and $5,000 for a wholesale distributor.

The deadline to apply without any late fee was 1 November.

Applications submitted before or by 31 December are subject to a late fee of an additional 50 per cent of the registration fee. Applications submitted between 1 and 31 January will incur a late fee of an additional 100 per cent of the registration fee.

If no application for renewal is received by 31 January, dealers will have to cease operation for 12 months before submitting a new application.

Application forms and guidelines are available from the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority. For further information, contact the Public Health Department at 244-2648 or 244-2621.
