Speakers
Peter Clarke was appointed to the board in 1997 and became finance director in May 2000. He was appointed deputy group chief executive in November 2005 and chief executive in March 2007.
Peter joined Man in 1993 from the investment banking industry, having worked at Morgan Grenfell and Citicorp.
He became head of Corporate Finance and Corporate Affairs and was company secretary from April 1996 to November 1997.
Matthew Botein, managing director, is head of BlackRock Alternative Investors (BAI). Prior to joining BlackRock in 2009, Mr. Botein was a managing director and member of the Management Committee at Highfields Capital Management, a Boston-based private investment partnership.
Previously, he was a member of the private equity departments at The Blackstone Group and Lazard Frères & Co. LLC.
Constance Hunter joined AXA IM in 2011 as deputy chief investment officer for fixed income.
Prior to joining AXA IM, Constance was a managing director and the chief economist at Aladdin Capital for two years. Prior to joining Aladdin, she was with Galtere Ltd, a global macro hedge fund, where she served as a chief economist.
Prior to and concurrently with, Galtere Ltd, she was the managing member and chief investment officer of Coronat Asset Management from 2004 until 2010.
Maria Elena Lagomasino (Mel) is chief executive officer of GenSpring Family Offices, a multi-family office that was originally established in 1989 as AMA – Asset Management Advisors. Mel was named CEO of the firm in November 2005.
Prior to joining GenSpring, Mel served as chairman and chief executive officer of JP Morgan Private Bank. Her career in banking began in 1977 at Citibank.
She joined the Chase Manhattan Private Bank in 1983 and was named head of Chase’s worldwide private banking business in 1997.
Following the Chase-JP Morgan merger, she became chairman and chief executive officer of the JPMorgan Private Bank.
Mark Okada is chief investment officer of Highland Capital Management, LP and is responsible for overseeing Highland’s investment activities for its various strategies.
Mr. Okada is a pioneer in the development of the bank loan market and has over 25 years of credit experience.
He is responsible for structuring one of the industry’s first arbitrage CLOs and was actively involved in the development of Highland’s bank loan separate account and mutual fund platforms.
Harvey L Pitt is the CEO of the global business consulting firm, Kalorama Partners, LLC, and its law firm affiliate, Kalorama Legal Services, PLLC.
Prior to founding the two Kalorama firms, Mr. Pitt served as the twenty-sixth chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, from 2001 to 2003.
Prior to becoming the SEC’s chairman, Mr. Pitt was a senior corporate partner at the international law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.
Gary Klopfenstein is head of Direct Alternative Investments for Mesirow Financial Investment Management, chief investment officer of the Mesirow Financial Currency Management division and a member of the firm’s executive management team and board of directors.
His executive responsibilities include the oversight of all direct alternative investments including currency, commodities and real assets.
Gary has over 25 years experience in alternative investments and is considered one of the top practitioners in the world in the field of currency risk management.
Jane Buchan is a managing director and PAAMCO’s chief executive officer.
As CEO, she is responsible for overall business strategy and firm direction.
In addition, she is a sector specialist responsible for the evaluation and management of fixed income relative value hedge funds in the various PAAMCO portfolios.
Prior to forming PAAMCO, she held various positions ranging from director of Quantitative Analysis to CIO of non-directional strategies at Collins Associates, an institutional fund of funds and consulting firm. She began her career at J.P. Morgan Investment Management in the Capital Markets Group.
Daniel Summerfield co-heads the Responsible Investment Team of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), one of the UK’s largest pension funds. He is responsible for leading USS’s work to improve corporate governance performance of companies, hedge funds and markets in which USS invests through the development and implementation of its engagement policy in the UK and overseas.
Previously, he was the head of corporate governance at the Institute of Directors where he was responsible for the IoD’s work on corporate governance.
Shawn Wells is managing director, general counsel and chief compliance officer of Roc Capital Management, LP, based in New York City.
Mr. Wells has spent almost his entire career in the investment management industry, including serving as general counsel of Merrill Lynch’s Hedge Fund Group, as well as chief counsel to Franklin Templeton Investments’ International and Alternative Strategies Divisions.
He has also held roles at HW Partners/Unity Hunt, Maverick Capital, Ltd, Jackson & Walker, LLP and Arthur Andersen & Company.
