Dudus fined

JAMAICA – Tivoli Gardens community leader Michael Christopher Coke, otherwise called ‘Dudus’, was yesterday fined $200 or 10 days’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to possession of a ganja spliff.

Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle ordered that Coke’s fingerprints be taken, reports the Jamaica Gleaner.

Coke’s girlfriend, Stephanie Gayle, who appeared with Coke in the Corporate Area Criminal Court, was freed of possession of a ganja spliff. The Crown withdrew the charge against her.

Coke was detained last Tuesday during a major police-military operation. He was offered station bail in the sum of $20,000 after he was charged. Coke was at his upper St. Andrew home when he was arrested.

After Coke was detained, attorney-at-law Tom Tavares-Finson filed a writ of habeas corpus in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court, seeking his immediate release. The application for the writ was withdrawn after Coke was offered bail.
