Boat distressed

On Tuesday at 4.46pm the 911 Emergency Communication Centre received a call of a Boat in Distress six miles out from George Town.

The three occupants on the 21-foot long Angler boat were fishing at 12-mile banks. On their return they ran out of fuel. Another boat in the area at the time took some fuel to the boat and the boat arrived back at shore safely at 6.34pm. There were no injuries to anyone on board.

Drugs found

An estimated total of 100kgs of cocaine was found in packages washed up on beaches from Frank Sound to East End.

After a call from a member of the public on Friday, police recovered a sack of cocaine that had washed up in the Pease Bay area.

A search of the beaches then revealed more packages of the cocaine, which will be destroyed in the near future.

‘This incident again emphasises the fact that the Cayman Islands fall squarely into a drug transhipment route with all of the attendant threats to the country,’ said RCIP media liaison officer Maria McLean.

‘The police are very grateful to the member of the public for the action taken that has prevented an extremely dangerous quantity of cocaine from getting into the hands of criminals,’ she said.
