Cayman jet skier injured after three watercraft collide

A jet ski rider was treated in hospital after a pile-up as a Cayman race series was under way last weekend.

The Cayman Islands Watercraft Association said the collision, which involved three jet skis, happened during races on South Sound.

The association added, “There was a minor accident in which one of the riders sustained minor injuries and was promptly attended to on-site.

“As a precaution, he was transported for further evaluation and has since been released.”

The association added, “We are pleased to share that the rider is doing well, and we look forward to seeing him back on the track soon.”

The incident happened at about 12:20pm on Sunday, 22 March as the association held the first round of the 2026 National Tour.

The association emphasised that all its events were run to high standards.

It said, “At CIWA, safety remains our highest priority, and we continue to uphold strict protocols to ensure the well-being of all riders, staff, and spectators at our events.”

The association added, “We extend our sincere thanks to the Cayman Islands Fire Service, EMS, everyone who provided assistance, and our CIWA safety marshals for their swift and professional response.

“CIWA remains committed to maintaining the highest safety standards in the sport, and we appreciate the continued support of our community.”
