Tourist, 61, dies in snorkelling incident

A Canadian tourist has died after getting into trouble while snorkelling, police have said.

The man, 61, was snorkelling when experienced difficulties and lost consciousness.

He was pulled from the water by members of the public, who carried out CPR until emergency services arrived.

The man was rushed to the Anthony S. Eden Hospital, but was later pronounced dead by doctors.

It is the fifth water-related death this year, with three fatalities, two of them tourists, logged in January alone.

The incident happened at Governor’s Beach, West Bay Road, George Town, at about 11.20am on Friday, 17 April.
