Brian Bothwell who was also due to receive G.C.E. certificates, was unable to be present due to being in Jamaica studying at the Agricultural College. The evening's programme commenced with the hymn "Now Thank we All Our God" prayer offered by the Rev. R. Coke and a Scripture Reading by Abrana Rivers from West Bay. The choir, under the direction of Miss Joyce Lyons, sang "Mary's Boy Child" as an anthem and the second lesson was read by Dwight Carter of Bodden Town.
After the presentation of certificates by Mrs. Cumber, His Honour the Administrator addressed the students.. His Honour expressed his pleasure, and that of his wife, at being able to attend this annual event not only because it signifies that another group of well-educated young Caymanians is entering the sphere of adult activities but because the Graduation Ceremony itself is attractive and thoroughlyworth-while.
He continued, "Perhaps I. am old-fashioned, but it seems to me that the Caymanian tradition whereby school-girls and boys serenely graduate from the class-room to the office desk instead of being thrust across the road, so to speak, has much to commend it. Before us we see a remarkably attractive group of young people who will undoubtedly make a valuable contribution to these islands either in business or in the home, or in both. I wish them every success and happiness in the future, whatever they may do and wherever they may be... They owe much to their parents and their school."
Rev. John Lord then delivered the sermon. for the evening basing his remarks on a fascinating book he had read by E. Stanley Jones, who was for many years a missionary in India, which takes its readers through steps in life which are steps in growth.
He urged the graduates to grow intellectually and spiritually even beyond the stage when physical growth ceases so that they may achieve more than mere mediocrity in life. He pointed out that the whole of their future lies in their own hands and prayed that they may continue to grow and never let decay set in mentally and spiritually
The Benediction was pronounced by Rev.. Geo. Hicks, Founder of the School and the ceremony concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Following this a Banquet and Dance was held at Seaview Lodge at which speeches were made on behalf of the graduates by Miss Eleanor Jackson and Mr. William Jackson, both children of Mr. and Mrs. Edison Jackson of Bodden Town.
