THE CASTING for Cayman Singers' production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance is now complete and a piquant touch is that Andrew Jackson will be singing one of the lead parts. Andrew wrote a critique of the Cayman Drama Society's "Plaza Suite" recently for the Caymanian Compass and was immediately taken to task for it by Mr. Roger Good, who suggested that Andrew should play the lead in the next production. Andrew has answered the challenge. Sharing the lead with him is Michael Blackie whose last musical role was in the Boyfriend. He is the Pirate King.

Other main parts are being played by David Bird, Ian Boxall, who was also in the Boyfriend, John Gray, the retired headmaster of the High School, Marilyn Smith and Muriel Mann, both newcomers, Eleri Keig, Andrea Rhodes, the Singers' president and Thelma Ebanks, a Caymanian who gets a part for the first time.
STAGING
Agnes Cook will be directing and Stuart Hurst is staging the production. Jack Balls is the choreographer. "Pirates" goes on at the Town Hall, George Town from May 26-28 and June 2-4. The Singers are still looking for men as pirates and policemen and point out that the operetta was mainly written for men. So where are you masculine men?

Rehearsals for the women's chorus begin on Wednesday at the Preparatory School (8 p.m.) while for all the cast they start on March 9, also at the Preparatory School (8 p.m.)
