Former Australian cricketer Jack Fingleton died in hospital here yesterday after suffering a heart attack on Friday. He was 73.

Fingleton opened the batting for Australia in the 1930s and was the first player to score four consecutive test match centuries.

He later became a political correspondent in Canberra, he wrote several books on cricket and his autobiography was due to have been published next week.
