Miss Garrett has recorded the Poulenc Sonata for Clarinet and Piano and Niels Gade Sonata with Arturo Ciompi on the Orion label. Her recording with Miss Gubrud and Miss Shelton of songs by Charles Griffes is due for release this season on the Musical Heritage Society label. Grenadilla Records will release her recording with Sharon Robinson of Debussy's Sonata No. 1 for Cello and Piano and Faure's "Elegy" later this year.
Now in great demand as a vocal coach for both operatic and recital literature, Miss Garrett teaches at Sarah Lawrence College, the Manhattan School of Music and participates each summer in the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood. She is a former faculty member of the North Carolina School of Arts and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy.
A native of North Carolina, Miss Garrett trained at the North Carolina School of Arts, the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School where she studied with Irwin Freundlich, Samuel Sanders, Martin Isepp and Pierre Bernac. While at the Manhattan School, Miss Garrett was the only accompanist ever to have won the coveted Harold Bauer Award, customarily given only to solo pianists.
