NEW YORK-Pat Nixon, wife of former U.S. President Richard Nixon, suffered a mild stroke early last week and spent five days in hospital for tests, a spokesman said Monday. At New York Hospital, a spokesman said the 71-year-old former first lady was 'recovering nicely.'

The former president's chief of staff, Nicholas Ruwe, said Mrs. Nixon was now back at the Nixon home in Saddle River, New Jersey.

In 1976, Mrs. Nixon had a major stroke from which she fully recovered.
