Innkeepers Football Club have high hopes of carrying another championship back to West Bay, but in order to do so, they will have to deal with a matter at hand-Yamaha Raiders.

After Saturday's matches in the Royal Bank Under-17 Soccer League, Raiders stood on top of the league, but their position was not that secure, for Innkeepers have them in their sights and have a game in hand over them. In horse racing terms, the league at the moment is too close to call. Raiders vaulted to the top of the league with the assistance of scores from Carlos Welcome, Delroy Davis and Anthony Ramoon in a 3-1 decision over Strikers whose lone goal came from the boot of Stanley Walton.

The Yamaha club has 10 points from six matches and will face Innkeepers at the Annex at 9.30 Saturday morning. If they can pull off the win, the championship will be theirs, regardless of what Innkeepers does in their final match.

There is a new type of fever in West Bay nowadays, and more and more of the district is catching it.

Cup fever was first recorded on 20 February when the Innkeepers senior club won the Schlitz Cup. Now small Innkeepers have a chance and they have their work cut out for them.

Leonard Powery's goal put CNB between the rock and the hard place last Saturday as Innkeepers beat them 1-0. CNB, with one to play, have nine points and must win their last match and hope for lots of help from other people to get in.

Innkeepers, on the other hand, have their destiny in control. All they have to do is win their last two and they will be the champions.

In other matches around the league on Saturday, CIHS 'Gers edged Boca Juniors 2-1 on goals from Eugene Myles and Michael Balfour while Gary Berry countered for Boca.

Last year's leading goalscorer, Brian Watler of East End, made a strong bid to keep his crown when he hammered home four in a 5-1 victory over Santos United. Not only did Watler fatten up on Santos, but East End managed to win its first in the season. Jay Welcome added the fifth for them, and Cliff Ebanks did the honours for Santos.
