"Sexual questions are no longer taboo in China," the newspaper said. "The persistent banning of sex education has resulted in sex crimes due to sex ignorance."
The two-month class run by the magazine "Society" (She Hui) began Monday and teaches what the paper called "basic theory, sex psychology, sex metamorphosis, bisexual deformity, sex morals, sex crimes, sex education, sex in art and literature."
The paper did not explain how students enroll or where the course is held, but called it China's "first national sex education course" with a teaching team of experts and scholars.
The paper said a Shanghai study showed sexual ignorance and an inharmonious sex life account for 25 per cent of all divorces in the city of 12 million, but did not give the specific number.
