Nicosia, Cyprus - The venue of the potentially explosive European Championship soccer games between a Cypriot and a Turkish team is to be reconsidered by UEFA, soccer's governing body, a Cypriot official said Thursday.

Cypriot Football Federation board member Christos Triantafyllides said UEFA accepted the Cypriot request for a meeting for this purpose. Last week's draw in Zurich which coupled Apoel of Cyprus with Besiktas of Turkey in the second round of the European Cup Winners' championship has been dubbed a "political bomb" by local newspapers.

The two countries have been technically at war since Turkey invaded and occupied the northern part of the east Mediterranean island in 1974.

Public opinion in Cyprus and Turkey appears divided over whether the two games, one in Cyprus and one in Turkey, should take place.
