The field proved very competitive (and delicious) with ribbons awarded to first, second and third place finishers in two categories.
For "taste," first place went to Le Escargot for its Almondine Cake. Hurley's Supermarket took second prize with its Spice Cake and Le Escargot's Neopolitan Mouse and Le Diplomat's Almond Cake took third.
Under "presentation," Le Escargot's Grand Marnier received first with Le Diplomat's Almond Cake placing second. Third place saw a three way tie between Holiday Inn's Peanut Caramel Cake, Le Escargot's Almondine Cake and Hurley Supermarket's Chocolate and Vanilla Cake.
Other bake-off participants receiving high praise were Mango Tree, Wholesome Bakery, Mary Trumbach and Periwinkle Restaurant.
"The enthusiasm for the bake-off competition was outstanding," says Mr. Larry Schwartz, sales manager at Roper's.
"Everyone provided creative and delicious cakes which make the judging very difficult."
The bake-off was part of the two day trade show held late last month. Over 500 people attended Roper's show from Cayman and other Caribbean Islands including Barbados, Turks & Caicos, Dominican Republic and Nassau. "Plans are already underway for next year's show which promises to be larger with many new ideas and surprises," adds Mr. Schwartz. (GFX)
