The Nikonos Shootout is the largest underwater photography contest in diving according to Skin Diver Magazine. Contestants enroll at no charge and are given a free roll of Kodak film each contest day for one week to take award-winning photographs.
Frank Fennell, Marketing Manager, Nikon U.S.A., organizes and supervises this contest.
Well-known professional underwater photographers Paul Tzimoulis, Geri Murphy, Steve Frink, and Scott Frier, as well as Nikonos repairman Bob Warkentin, will teach seminars designed to improve the skills of the participant.
Approximately 90 underwater photographers have enrolled in the Brac Shootout this week from 29 April through 6 May. Chris and Donna McLaughlin, Photo Pros, Peter Hughes Photo Tiara, are processing in excess of 100 rolls of film each day.
Henderson Aquatics, one of the Shootout sponsors, will host a fashion show at the Divi Tiara featuring their line of wetsuit products. A cocktail party hosted by Nikon U.S.A. is also scheduled.
Daily workshops are offered on how to use decompression computers manufactured by Orca Industries, who produce the Edge and the Skinny Dipper. At the end of the week an awards ceremony will be held announcing the prizewinners. Prizes totaling $100,00.00 will be awarded for the four Shootout during 1989. The Nikonos Shootout will again be scheduled next year at the Divi Tiara Beach Resort
