A trade link between Cayman and Costa Rica has resulted in the inauguration of Hurley's Furnishings Ltd., which will be supplying mahogany furniture locally.

The furniture, supplied by two manufacturing companies in Costa Rica, comes in a variety of classical designs, including reproduction Chippendale, Queen Anne and French Provincial, and will only be available through Hurley's Furnishings Ltd., at their Xanadu showrooms on Walkers Road, formerly Hurley's Meat Market. Much of this handsome furniture is for the household: dining room suites, bedroom suites, many featuring four poster beds, sideboards, chests and desks, but there is a wide selection of items suitable for the executive office, such as desks with matching Captain's chair and sideboard. All furniture is produced from rich, Costa Rican mahogany, down to the interior of all drawers and backing panels on cupboards and chests.

This new trade link began shortly before the Costa Rican Trade Delegation mounted its Trade Show in Cayman in March. A Director of Hurley's Furnishings was travelling to Costa Rica on business and it was suggested by Mr. Mario Ebanks, C.I. Chamber of Commerce, that he visit the offices of a leading exporter, Protea, while he was there. He met with representatives of Protea, who had been appointed as coordinators of the Cayman Trade Show by CENPRO, the export arm of the Costa Rican Government, and was asked to assist them with organizing the trade show in Cayman.

Furniture from two leading Costa Rican manufacturers was displayed at the show and proved so popular that the entire inventory was sold out before the show ended. Mr. Hurley Merren, chairman of Hurley's Furnishings, was impressed enough to place an immediate order.

Since, he has opened a temporary showroom on Walkers Road and hopes to have construction of much larger premises, also on Walkers Road, completed by September. "When I saw the incredibly high quality of this furniture and the professional way in which it had been finished, I knew there would be a market for it here," said Mr. Merren, who went on to note that the price of this furniture is unbelievably low considering the quality and the fact that it is all produced from solid mahogany.
