Ronette Dixon, 19, sprained her ankle in her singles games of the tie and played it out after the doctor patched her up; losing both games 11-0. The injury reshuffled the playing order moving the mixed doubles up to rest Dixon's foot. She decided to play the ladies doubles saying she felt better only to retire hurt at the end of the first set 15-0.
Chris Cole was the most successful of the Cayman side winning points off the strong Mexican side losing 15-2, 15-6; when most of the other games were to love. "It was pretty tough out there," he said after his match "they are so superior".
"It's been a pretty good experience for us though," he added. "It is the biggest competition I have been at and my play has definitely improved over these five days already after playing continually and in the proper facilities."
One sign of hope was the improvement of Cole's and doubles partner Dustan Groome's play in the men's doubles with the individual competition beginning on Friday. The pair played a much better game against the Mexicans and despite going down 15-2, 15-0 were happier with their performance. There is still the need for more consistency "but we played better on court and got back a few more shots," Cole said.
Only Debbie O'Connor, the Caribbean ladies champion; managed to win one game for Trinidad and Tobago in the semifinal playoffs against Jamaica later in the day. Jamaica confirmed their regional superiority in the sport taking four matches to one and will now face jointfavourites Mexico in the finals on 29 November at 1700 local time. Defeated by Mexico, 5-0 the Barbados team face neighbours Trinidad for the bronze medal playoff earlier in the day. CAYMAN VS MEX-ICO RESULTS
