The delights and benefits of reading will be promoted this weekend when the George Hicks High School hosts the third Annual Cayman Book Fair.

Ten local companies will be represented at the fair, which opens at 10.30am on Saturday 7 November. As usual authors from a variety of genres will make special guest ap- pearances. appearances at the promotional fair organised by the Cayman Reading Association.

Mrs. Barbara Levy at the Book Nook had particular responsibility for inviting the foreign authors to the fair who were, without exception, "thrilled at the invitation" she said.

Children's book illustrators, Ed and Barbara Emberley, will be introducing their series of books teaching drawing. In the same vein Disney book illustrator, Darrell Baker, will also be there.

Local cartoonist Horacio Madinaveitia, who recently graced the Pirates Fest promotion with his own style of illustration, will introduce his new book, Sir Robert's Little Outing. Sir Fred Phillips, author of Caribbean Life and Culture, will be returning for the fair and Brian Kieran will be signing copies of his insight into Cayman's past The Lawless Caymanas.

The day's events include a costume parade and literary talent show, plus workshops hosted by CITV's Guy Harrison, Caymanian Compass editor, Ursula Gill, and chief archivist Mr. Philip Pedley.

The highlight of the day is expected to be the performance of Caribbean songs by Irving Burgie who penned the hits, Day-O, Jamaica Farewell and Island in the Sun.

The Book Fair was promoted by a special poster competition sponsored by the Book Nook. Celine Rankine from the Prep School won with her design out of 218 submitted entries. She will be at the Fair where copies of her poster will be on sale.
