Bird added another name to his cabinet line-up, bringing Sam Aymer in through the Senate as health minister.
He added to his own portfolios and switched around his education and tourism minister in his first reshuffle since taking over from his elderly father, Vere Bird Sr., in 1994.
Aymer, one of two new senators named by the Antigua and Barbuda leader in an address to the nation Tuesday night, had been appointed chief of staff in the Prime Minister's office after working in Jamaica with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).
As Minister of Health, he replaces Hilroy Humphreys, the new minister of industry, trade Continued on page 2 from page 1 and consumer affairs.
Humphreys has taken over a large chunk of the work of veteran politician John St. Luce, who remains minister of agriculture, lands and fisheries. St. Luce has two new portfolios - planning and co-operatives. In a series of changes effective yesterday, Dr. Rodney Williams has been switched from the ministry of education to the ministry of tourism, which he had headed under Bird Sr. Bernard Percival moves from tourism to education.
Prime Minister Bird has taken over responsibility for telecommunications, civil aviation, international transportation (from Robin Yearwood) and gaming (from finance minister Molwyn Joseph).
