"Sex is fine - as long as they're playing every five or six days. Not if they're playing every 48 hours," the newspaper La Nacion cited Passarella as saying on Friday.
Passarella, who has earned a reputation as a strict disciplinarian for banning his players from having long hair or wearing earrings, said sex could be "healthy."
"I won't let them do it at the hotel where we're staying," Passarella was quoted as saying. "But I won't object if they rent a house or find a place to do it."
Passarella, whose team finished atop the South American standings to qualify for the finals, is breaking with tradition: Carlos Bilardo slapped a ban on sex during the 1986 World Cup - which they won - and the 1990 competition where they were runners-up.
