A record-breaking cricketer for a groundbreaking ceremony was what the country was treated to when one of the game's true giants visited Cayman.

Sir Garfield Sobers - the greatest all-rounder the game has ever seen - visited to take part in the groundbreaking for the players pavilion at the West Bay cricket facility. Sir Garfield, a legend in West Indies and world cricket, heard all about the proposed two-storey building, said to be a joint project between the government, the Cayman Islands Cricket Association and "the people of the Cayman Islands."

And at the ceremony, the facility was officially named the Jimmy Powell Oval as a tribute to Cayman's own "father of cricket."
