Much like the weather, the weekend football at East End in CIFA's Fosters League wasn't great.
soccer
In the first game, played in the rain, George Town beat Western Union
2-0. FA Cup Champions Bodden Town beat FC International 2-nil in the second match.
The score lines in both games, however, don't reflect the play.
The first game saw both teams on the attack from the start trying, almost desperately, to cre-
ate goal chances. George Town's Frederick Wilk's in particular did some tough defending though to keep the Western Union players at bay for some of the night.
George Town's first goal came eight minutes from the start. It was nothing to write home
about and came as a result of what appeared to be a lot of messing around at the goal mouth.
George Town's second goal came in the second half and it was superb.
Just minutes before the final whistle, Leon Whittaker, who played some fantastic football, put in an exquisite shot to Anthony Ramoon who blasted a well placed shot to give George Town their second goal.
Tempers did get frayed during the night and the referee handed out a number of yellow cards including one to Western Union coach Euclides "Beco" Pitta.
George Town deserved to win because they took their chances but that doesn't mean to
say they played great football. George Town had a bagful of chances. In fairness though, Western Union keeper Milton Sinclair had a good game. And it's probably because of him that the score line was 2-0 and not 22-0.
In the second game, a much livelier game, FC International really put it up to the Bodden Town men.
Cecil "CI" Walton has done a Michael Jordan and come out of retirement to play for FC. Kept on his toes all night, Walton made some great saves as well as some crucial defending. But it proved not to be enough to keep a clean sheet for the night.
The first Bodden
Town goal came 20 minutes into the second half when Gary Berry found the net. Like the match before, the second goal was a better one.
Bodden Town's Thomas Wood took a shot only to find the hands of Walton but the veteran keeper couldn't hold on to it and Wood struck the rebound to find the back of the net making the score 2-0.
FC, however, kept pressing, looking for a goal that never came. It's not to say that FC are a bad team because they're not. And right now, the team's rebuilding. But on the night, Bodden Town put away their chances and at the end of the day that's what made the difference.
