Singers charges upheld
Decatur, Georgia (AP) A judge has denied a motion to drop charges against singer Bobby Brown from a 1996 traffic stop.
Brown appeared in court Monday with his wife, the singer Whitney Houston, with whom he held hands and talked quietly. The courtroom was filled with the couple's entourage and fans.
The 33-year-old singer didn't go to a hearing in 1997 on charges of driving under the influence, speeding, failing to maintain a lane and having no proof of insurance.
Brown's attorney Xavier Dicks argued the charges happened too long ago and the memory of any potential witnesses would be impaired.
State Court Judge Wayne Purdom denied his motion and set a Jan. 21 trial date.
Brown was arrested earlier this month in Atlanta on charges of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver's license or proof of insurance.
After he was released from the Atlanta jail on $1,300 bond, he was transferred to the DeKalb County Jail, where he posted a $10,000 bond.
Rap star's hot property
Detroit (AP) Eminem's former homes continue to draw fans and bids of more than $11 million to an Internet auction site.
A modest, 1,300-square-foot (117-square-meter) Warren home, listed on eBay since Nov. 14, was appraised at $91,000. The highest of the 289 bids as of Monday morning was $11,000,600. Bidding opened at $120,000.
"It amazes me," co-owner Roland Fraschetti told The Detroit News. "We're trying to find out more about the bidder."
Fraschetti bought the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home on Nov. 8 for $45,000 with partner Sebastian Lucido.
"We know there are sincere bids out there in the six figures and some sincere bids in the seven figures but I don't know about the eight-figure bids," Fraschetti said.
Mariah bounces back
Tokyo (AP) _ After being hospitalised for an emotional breakdown last year, Mariah Carey flew to the tiny Italian island of Capri for a much-needed break.
It was hardly an idle vacation. Within five months, the multiplatinum-selling diva had nursed herself back to health and recorded all 15 songs for her new disc, "Charm bracelet," which comes out in the United States on Dec. 3. The experience, she said, was therapeutic.
"I put all the things I had gone through into my music," Carey told reporters Tuesday in Tokyo. "In general, in my life, I'm in a really good, happy place."
