Today, Friday 3 September marks the 40th anniversary of Miss Cleopatra Conolly's employment and involvement with East End's famous Tortuga Club.

When she began working there in 1964, it was known simply as the Tortuga Club and offered a small bar and restaurant, 16 rooms and a truly unique Caribbean experience. Over the past fifteen years the Tortuga Club, now owned and operated by Mr. David G. Morritt, has expanded into two resorts, Morritt's Tortuga Club and Resort and Morritt's Grand Resort. A shopping centre is under development and plans are in the works for future developments.

The "old Tortuga Club" now boasts over 200 rooms, five swimming pools, two swim-up pool bars, and over 50 weekly on-site activities.

Through all of the development and change Miss Conolly, affectionately known as "Miss Cleo", has been a smiling fixture, states a press release from Morritt's. She began her work as a cook in the kitchen of the old Tortuga Club and to this day her recipes still grace the tables at David's Restaurant. She continues to meet and greet the guest's of Morritt's in her current role of "Official Ambassador" with her smile and stories. "My mother didn't pray for me to be rich, she just prayed for me to get a good job." said Miss Cleo. "Well, I did get a good job, and I held onto it for forty years."
