Boating for a bargain

Harbour House Marina holds its annual open house event on Saturday December 5.

This is an essential day out for any boating or would be boating enthusiasts, it’s a chance to test ride boats and to take advantages of special prices on the day to buy Christmas presents, essential supplies or indeed a new boat.

The boats.

Harbour House  Marina has become Cayman Islands dealer for Angler Boats and this will be the first chance to see these boats launched.

Angler boats are routinely described as rugged and good value for money. These are boats built for serious fishing; nothing fancy but still having nice clean lines.

Angler Boats is a modest-sized South Florida operation started by Elio Grillo about three decades ago. Grillo’s a fisherman and the company has concentrated on no-frills fishing boats—centre consoles and walkarounds—since the beginning. Based in Miami, Angler turns out about 1,100 boats each year. They have a reputation for being sturdy boats, with deep cockpits and high freeboard that come equipped with most of the fishing amenities you’d want.

On show will be the new 2010 models of the 18ft 20 ft and 22 centre consoles and also the 26 Panga. Combine these boats with the Mercury four stroke engines and a trailer and you get a nice tidy economical boating package.

If you are considering buying a boat, Saturday is the day to do so as all the boats, new and used, will be offered at special prices.

If you want to get a feel of how different models handle you can test ride the Whaler and Sea Ray models on the day .

The Boston Whaler is famous for being indestructible but they also pride themselves that their boats are comfortable. They understand if people are going fishing their might be a lot of sitting or lying about so seating design is important. The other factor is that the boats are low maintenance; surfaces are easily cleaned and maintained leaving more time for boating.

Sea Rays are big guys in the boating world, producing over 40 different models of sports boats and yachts. One of the big reasons why Sea Ray has such a big name in boating is that the company is in tune with the whole experience of owning a boat. That means using it, towing it, and maintaining it.

They make large yachts but they are also aware that people want smaller run-arounds.

Sea Ray 175 could be yours !
The Sea Ray 175 Sport is an entry level sport boat but manages to pack in features of its bigger sisters.  For a smaller boat storage space has been considered and it has been described as an energetic boat with sexy curves!

Now the stupendous news,

valued at $19,950 it could be yours for the price of a raffle ticket.

Seafaring Christmas presents
Even if you are not thinking of buying a boat, the open day gives the opportunity to grab a bargain for yourself or get or a Christmas present for seafaring types.

There is 20 percent discount on a variety of different products, including clothing.

Tilley hats make a great present as they are practically indestructible and stylish too.

Crocs are another item which has become iconic. For those who are not converts, crocs utilize a material called Croslite™ which is a proprietary closed cell resin. This material does not absorb odours and it gives maximum cushioning.

The Croc Ace has particular qualities which make it good for boating. The soles are non-marking and have great gripping so no slipping around on wet decks.

They have grooves that direct water away and ventilation holes so your feet remain dry.

Other things on offer are life jackets, ropes, Harken yacht equipment, Garmin GPS, Icom VHF and fishing tackle.

If you are looking for a Christmas present for kids the Shakespeare kids fishing kit includes everything they need to get them started and hopefully give them a lifelong passion for fishing.

As mentioned the day will also feature a raffle. First prize is a brand new Sea Ray 175 Sport. Second prize is a Tarpon 130t kayak and third prize is a Garmin Nuvi 205   with a great new feature, road navigation maps for Cayman and North America.
