Easter activities and delights

With Easter just round the corner and with many choosing to stay close to home this year, the Observer on Sunday takes a look at what residents and visitors can do in Cayman.

Even if you are not planning to take any vacation days off over Easter, with the long weekend, there is still plenty of things to do like free diving (for residents only), kiting in Kaibo and brunches.

ATTRACTIONS, ACTIVITIES
Divetech 2 for 1 kids’ resort course: 2-5 April

Divetech in West Bay is really pushing out the boat; the dive boat that is, with its 2 for 1 kids’ resort course this Easter for resident children aged 10-16 years old.

For $100, participants will learn how to shallow dive in some of the world’s most scenic dives. Classes start at either 8am or 1pm and the price includes all equipment. Book early at 946-5658.

Lion Fish Safari: Saturday, 17 April
Join the dive operation’s Lion fish safari, 1-5pm. Check in at 12.30pm and keep what you catch.

Light house Point open house: 11 and 18 April

And if a little property spotting grabs your fancy, Lighthouse Point Condos is holding an open house, 1-3pm, to showcase the development’s ‘green’ condos which are for sale and long-term rental.

Earth Month Clean Up Day: Saturday, 24 April
Want to give back and help the local marine environment at the same time? Join Divetech’s Earth Month Clean Up Day event, 1-5pm. The Divetech crew and volunteers will clean up the reefs at both Cobalt Coast and Lighthouse Point all afternoon. Dive with free tanks/weights. Fill out the Department of the Environment’s annual fish surveys and help update data on marine wildlife trends. No need to reserve a space, just show up and pitch in. Kaibo Kite Festival: Monday, 5 April
Make a day of it; Kaibo will be co-hosting Kaibo Kite Festival with Z99 on Easter Monday, noon-sunset. Come fly kites on Kaibo’s sandy beach and enter the event’s kite competitions. Kites will be for sale or build your own at the on-site workshop. Travel over on the free ferries from Safehaven at noon. Listen to live bands on the beach and try the Appleton Kite Runner cocktails.

Upstairs Restaurant at Kaibo is open over the Easter weekend from 6pm. Water taxi $25 per person.

Atlantis Submarines:
Atlantis Submarines is giving residents 30 per cent off regular rates on both its Atlantis Submarine and its Seaworld Observatory any day, anytime. Check out its Seaworld Observatory family package where any four family members can hop aboard for only US$99 (the regular adult rate is US$49, child $24). Red Sail Sports:
Enjoy a meal at the Rum Point Restaurant and travel in style with a free ride over on the Rum Point ferry. The complimentary catamaran sail is offered exclusively to diners at the waterfront restaurant. The free ferry service runs Wednesday through Saturday, departing Safehaven, 5pm and returning 9.30pm. Reservations are required, call 945-5965.

Sunday Resident Dive:
Get off the couch and dive for $30. This offer is only for local certified divers, Sunday mornings, 9am, from Grand Cayman Beach Suites beach. Complete a wall dive and shallow reef dive along Seven Mile Beach. Regulators with computers are available for $10 and BCD’s at $5, if needed. Each boat takes 20 maximum, so book early, at 949-8745 and bring your c-card.

 
Dolphin Cove: Easter Family Fun Day, Saturday, 3 April
Visit Dolphin Cove’s Easter Family Fun Day, Saturday, 1am-1pm. Listen to 106.1 KISS FM broadcasting live, and take part in the dolphin swim programme for 50 per cent off normal rates, and enjoy the Easter egg hunt, face painting, bouncy castle, clowns, kids’ colouring corner and more. Ritz-Carlton: Easter Bunny Tea:  Saturday, 3 April

Hippity hop to the Ritz-Carlton’s Easter Bunny Tea at the Silver Palm lounge.  Enjoy the magic of the Easter holiday while savouring a selection of classic and herbal teas, finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries.  Try out Easter egg decorating and see the Easter Bunny. Easter Family Brunch in the Cayman Islands Royal Ballroom: Sunday, 4 April.

Prime: Easter Sunday brunch:

Icoa has taken inspiration from Europe with a selection of Easter cakes and confections. Choose from a mouth-watering selection of treats including personalised Easter eggs; petit fours; spring trifle – a vanilla sponge cake layered with Grand Marnier pastry cream, seasonal fruit, raspberry preserves and topped with fresh cream; and gubana, a festive sweet bread from Italy.
