Polished shines brightly

Being pregnant is an exciting
journey and most women never forget their favourite and important moments such
as their first ultrascan or those first few months with the new arrival.
Everyone takes photos, but at Polished, a new nail salon and gift boutique,
they have some gifts for mums to be which will make the whole experience even
more unique.

A really great idea is Butterflies
and hiccups, a guided pregnancy journal in which thoughts feelings, doctor’s
visits and photos of pre and post delivery moments can be recorded. This makes
a great memento for the happy couple to keep or even as a gift for
grandparents.

For the more adventurous pregnant
woman, there are belly cast kits that enable ladies to create a plaster belly
cast in the privacy of their own homes in just 30 minutes. A step up from
keeping their first booties is another clay kit which captures your new
arrival’s hands and feet prints in clay form. These clay keepsakes kits have no
mixing or mess and can be hung from a wall, placed in a picture frame or on
your desktop.

“It’s a quick do it yourself kit,
with no mess, no mixing and is safe for mom and baby,” said the store’s owners
Cindy Oostvogles.

Other gifts for toddlers and
infants currently at Polished are expertly hand-knitted dolls, hanging mobiles,
rattles, backpacks in vibrant colours and luxurious blankets. In addition,
silky onesies, made from pima cotton and light weight muslin blankets, which
are perfect for swaddling the newest addition to the family.

What makes Polished different is
that it is a combination of gift shop and a full scale nail salon, wax and
massage services. Cindy says that it is “a true, girly girly store.”

Inspired by a previous business
called Comfy Couch that operated at Alista Towers, Cindy said she wanted to
reopen Comfy Couch, but this time with a twist. “That twist is the salon,” she
says.

Partnering Cindy is Diane
Banadonna, who has over 25 years of experience in the beauty industry, and
owned the popular salon Nails by Di in Cayman from 1990 to 2001. Another point
about the gift range, which ranges from
purses, hand-made jewellery to contemporary canvas wall art, is that
only a small amount of each item is ordered, making each gift truly unique. “We
want to make the items in the store as novel as possible and that bit extra
special for our guests,” says Diane.

If you need any extra encouragement
to go along and check it out the salon is also fitted with pedi spa chairs that
fully recline and massage visitors while they get their nails done!
