Helping to solve crime in Cayman is now at your fingertips.
Cayman Crime Stoppers has gone fully digital, introducing a new app and website for people to submit tips instantly via their cellphone, or online.
Crime Stoppers is now 100% digital.
The updated system replaces the Tips phone line, which used an off-island call centre for the public to submit tips.
“Crime Stoppers is now 100% digital,” says Lauren Riley-Gledhill of Cayman Crime Stoppers. “Tips can be submitted via the website or our new app – the phone line no longer exists.”
She says going digital not only enhances the efficiency of Crime Stoppers, but also helps the RCIPS conduct more effective and timely investigations, as witnesses to a crime or suspicious activity can provide information – including photos – instantly, using their cellphones.
All tips are anonymous and confidential – meaning the tipster’s identity will not be revealed to either Crime Stoppers or the police.
People can download the app, Cayman Crime Stoppers, from Google Play and the App Store, or by clicking the link on the Cayman Crime Stoppers website: caymancrimestoppers.com.

“The key benefit is to offer the community a more efficient mechanism by which tips can be submitted and monitored by the tipster, over time,” says Riley-Gledhill. “Secondly, the Tip form within the app has been designed to prompt and guide the individual to input certain particulars that would better assist the RCIPS when conducting an investigation.”
If an individual does not want to have the app on their phone, they can submit information using a secure online tip submission form on the website.
“Both channels are secure, confidential, and details on the individual submitting a tip cannot be tracked,” adds Riley-Gledhill.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organisation driven by cooperation between citizens, the media and police to involve the public in the fight against crime. It is part of Crime Stoppers International, and affiliated with the Caribbean, Bermuda and Latin American regional body.
While Cayman Crime Stoppers is independent of the RCIPS, it is a key partner that plays an important role in reviewing tips and investigating.
Its primary partner is the community.
“Crime Stoppers encourages and enables members of the community to be part of the solution and help stamp out crime in our community,” says Riley-Gledhill.
“It has created a confidential and anonymous mechanism for individuals to report crime, in
a safe and efficient manner. This gives people options, particularly where there may be barriers for individuals to report via traditional channels.”
Cayman Crime Stoppers pays a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and charge of a serious crime, or gun-related offence.
HOW TO HELP
Cayman Crime Stoppers is headed by a 10-member board of directors representing various sectors of the community. It is funded by donations, sponsorships and fundraising events, including an annual golf tournament.
People can become involved by volunteering for its various fundraisers and initiatives, becoming a sponsor or displaying the Cayman Crime Stoppers sticker in their window.
“We welcome the opportunity to speak to the community about our app,” says Riley-Gledhill. “We also encourage feedback as to how we can further assist to make the Cayman Islands a safer place to live.”
