When Premier League football resumes on Sunday the most interesting match will be between Scholars International and Bodden Town. It is at the Bodden Town field at 7pm, following the early game between league leaders Elite who face bottom club Future.
Elite lead the table with Scholars one point behind and Bodden Town three points behind Scholars.
Scholars International technical director Collin ‘Dougie’ Rowe said: “This is an intriguing match for us as it is the first one after Christmas. We’re very focused having trained for the past week. Mentally we’re well prepared and fitness wise the players are at a higher level than I expected considering we’ve just had Christmas.
“I’m impressed that the majority of the players did a lot of personal training to keep themselves fit. We’re really up for the challenge.
“I know Bodden Town are a competitive side with a lot of young legs, but our mission is not to drop any more points, work hard and keep on winning.”
Scholars International are unbeaten this season but have drawn more matches than they would like, hence the fact that Elite lead the table. Scholars have the biggest squad of the eight teams which is partly why their goals have been scored by several players, particularly Carson Fagan, captain Mark Ebanks, Eric Brown and Nahun Rodriguez.
Rowe added: “We want to have a good win because the following week we play Elite in the first leg of the Digicel Cup semis. That will be another big test for us.”
Bodden Town technical director Elbert McLean does not like to make predictions.
He said: “I prefer to let the playing do the talking. We didn’t really have any break from training over Christmas because we know that we have to beat Scholars to stay in contention. Our top scorers are Yefry Calderon who is a defender, my son Charlo and Arvid Harris. We’re looking forward to beating Scholars this time. Earlier in the season we were two up in West Bay but got two red cards and they came back to win 3-2. We’re looking forward to improving on that.”
The other Premier League games are at the TE McField Annex. Roma United play Tigers in the 5pm game and George Town face Cayman Athletic in the 7pm match.
