Pizza Hut have best ingredients

Pizza Hut are officially the best team in Cayman’s AA Little League ranks.

Maples could only manage to scrape out one run after being held to only two hits in a 16-1 loss to Pizza Hut at the George Town Field of Dreams facility. The game was totally dominated from start to finish by Pizza Hut in the AA division of the Cayman Islands Little League.

Francisco Fuentes started as the Maples pitcher but things never went his way from the start as he gave up six runs in the first inning and it was pretty much all down hill from there.

There is just no stopping Pizza Hut’s hits. Almost the entire team’s bats have been swinging and the boys have been sliding and stealing bases resulting in high scores. Player of the game Wyatt Hope had a great game with an Run Batted In single and a walk. Strong pitching by Justin Derrick held Maples to no runs in the first two innings.

It was a nail-bitter in the third inning with bases loaded twice, but closer Mario “Super Mario” Ebanks kept his cool and pitched his way out of the jam while giving up only one run. He came back again in the bottom of the fourth inning and cleaned up with three straight strike-outs to secure a blow out win for Pizza Hut. With their 10th win of the season Pizza Hut has clinched first place in a very competitive AA division.

In other action, Crighton downed CIBC FCIB 6-0. CIBC FCIB fell victim to a no-hitter thrown by Crighton pitcher Zion Coe. One CIBC player got on base via walk and all the action for the Crushers was on defence, as they worked hard to keep 16 Crighton baserunners from turning the game into a total blowout.

Player of the game, catcher Everton “Mudcat” Allen, led the charge putting out six with throws to first, third and putting down the tag at homeplate. Chad Brooks caught a pop fly in right field and also made a nice relay throw to Gio Foster, who fired a bullet to Everton at home to cut down the runner at the plate. Gio also put out two at first. Julian Menko put out two attempting to steal third and pitcher Javier Johnson pitched a complete game and struck out five.

Playoff seedings are expected to be decided this week. The postseason is slated to begin this Saturday, 19 May, at the Field of Dreams.
