George Town’s long and arduous season has not ended because they are in action in the second round of the Caribbean Football Union Club Champions on Wednesday.
Despite torrential rain throughout Monday, Caledonia AIA of Trinidad and Puerto Rico Islanders managed to play that evening at the TE McField Annex because the rain stopped in time for the pitch to be passed fit for use, although the game started late. The fourth side in the competition, Haiti’s Baltimore Sporting Club, did not arrive.
The match was drawn 0-0 which suits George Town technical director Lee Ramoon who watched intently. George Town play Calenonia at the TE McField Annex, kick-off 7.30pm and weather permitting, should see massive support.
Ramoon said: “They are both good teams and play attractive football with a lot of pace. They have some big guys at the back and we’ll have to close them down early.”
GT captain Ian Lindo may not start because of injury so Ramoon is looking for midfield general Fabian ‘Daddy’ Malcolm for another big match. “We need players like Daddy to step up for this one.”
Ramoon is also looking for reliable players like Garth Anderson, Leighton ‘Rumpy’ Elliott and keeper Miguel Pitta to turn in sterling performances to his injury hit squad. George Town are battling for one of two spots in the CFU Final Group which qualifies for the CONCACAF Champions League.
