It was a proud day for children and their parents on the lawn of the Governor’s House on Thursday, 28 June.
Participants in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme received their bronze and silver certificates and pins from Cayman Islands Governor Duncan Taylor and were praised by Katherine Jackson, national chairman of the Cayman Islands national award authority. She went on to explain what was involved in attaining the awards, and how important involvement in such a programme had become for the youth of today.
“Through the award we are building good character traits. The report writing helps the participants to be ready to do that work in school; sticking to a task until it is completed is a character trait highly valued by employers. Honesty and trustworthiness are valued by everyone, and participating in the lives of others builds compassion and the sense of caring which helps all of us to find true joy in life.”
