The region’s leading North American carrier will feature prominently at the Caribbean’s premier tourism gathering when Art Torno, American Airlines vice president for the Caribbean, Latin America and Mexico, makes a feature presentation at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s State of the Industry Conference in St. Kitts in October.
Caribbean tourism practitioners and policymakers from the public and private sectors will get a sense of where the Caribbean fits in American Airlines’ plans from Mr. Torno during a presentation dubbed, “What’s Next for American Airlines”.
“American Airlines is a partner of long standing with the Caribbean and the single largest carrier from North America to the Caribbean,” said Hugh Riley, the organisation’s secretary general.
“So to hear what American, which itself is going through changes, will be doing as a corporation and how it is going to be treating the Caribbean region in the context of those changes will be of considerable interest to our attendees at the conference.”

Mr. Riley added that because Mr. Torno is taking over from “a legend in Caribbean/American Airlines relations,” Peter Dolaro, it is important that the Caribbean Tourism Organization introduces the new vice president and his plans to the region’s tourism interests early in his tenure.
Mr. Torno will speak on Friday, 12 October, the final morning of the conference.
American is the third largest airline in the United States. It has been going through bankruptcy since last November.
The State of the Industry Conference, which will be held at the St. Kitts Marriot Resort & Spa from 10-12 October, brings together some of the most creative minds in Caribbean and international tourism to develop winning strategies for the Caribbean’s primary money earner.
