Hot Shots limber up

The Ernst and Young Hot Shots hope to catch fire in local netball.

After a 1-4 start to the 2013-2014 Appleby Netball League, the Hot Shots will look for a change in fortune this month. Up next for Ernst and Young is a division two contest against the University College of the Cayman Islands. That match is slated for Monday, Feb. 3, at 6:45 p.m. at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. UCCI, a rookie team, have experienced growing pains with a 1-3 start.

The Hot Shots are coming off a 15-7 defeat to newcomers Affinity Sapphires, 3-2, while UCCI got their first win by beating 1-4 Spirits, 22-16.

Monday also sees 1-3 Jacques Scott Social taking on 3-1 Lights International at 6:45 p.m. Jacques Scott narrowly defeated 4-2 Rising Stars B, 27-25, in their last game while Lights toppled 3-3 Blue Diamonds, 31-23. Matches continue at Truman Bodden on Thursday, Feb. 6, and Friday, Feb. 8, from 6:45 p.m.

Cayman National Bank All Stars B are the division frontrunners at 5-0, followed by Rising Stars, Diamonds, Affinity, Lights, Hot Shots, Spirits, Jacques Scott and UCCI.

The league, put on by the Cayman Islands Netball Association, also offers division one action.

Leading the way is 2-1 Rising Stars A, who are ahead of 2-1 Conyers All Stars A, 2-0 Roma, 0-2 Flames Strikers and 0-2 Unity. Matches continue this Thursday and Saturday.
