A local flag football team helped introduce Cayman to Sonny the Parrot.
The Predators, sponsored by Island Heritage, were among the team of volunteers at the insurance company’s promotional event, “It’s a Sonny Day.” The family fun day took place at the Strand Shopping Center on West Bay Road last Saturday and centered on the introduction of the company’s new mascot, Sonny.
Ernesto Ebanks serves as Predators team captain and said the event was a way to highlight his squad’s community approach.
“It was a good event as it provided a great introduction on many levels,” Ebanks said. “Island Heritage got to showcase its new mascot while showing their appreciation for the community. We, as a new team, were able to assist while showing the public that our focus goes beyond touchdowns.
“We have a lot of young men on our team and one of our long-term goals is to foster their development as good citizens. Sports can be an avenue not just for better fitness, but for more community awareness and we intend to highlight that fact going forward.”
Saturday’s event featured a live DJ, face painting and a spin-the-wheel competition. It was the Predators’ second attempt at community outreach, previously helping the Cayman Islands Little League Association with cleanup efforts at the Field of Dreams facility last month.
