March is being celebrated as Honoring Women Month, with many local activities including the Women’s Resource Centre WOW Expo on March 8 and Color Me Purple 5K Walk/Run.
As our calendar turns to April, let us be thoughtful of the lessons shared during the month. The modern day woman is a blur of activity, often pressured to be all things to all people, leaving her bereft and tired, uninspired and powerless.
Feelings of melancholy for unmet dreams, daily pressures and chronic stress cause many a modern-day woman to free-fall into a drudgery existence that robs her of a playful, robust and creative life. The modern woman may become spiritually, emotionally and physically drained causing her to make life-sapping choices in relationships and careers.
She may seem to shrink within her own skin and find herself shaky, uncertain, fearful, exhausted and longing for an authentic life. To become a healthy woman requires understanding of the cycles of womanhood, woman who nurtures and modern woman in the working world.
To be a healthy woman is to be your stronger self, choosing the higher road, walking your path with pride and dignity, able to set healthy boundaries and to act and speak on your own behalf.
A healthy woman forgives, releases the past, acts towards others with kindness and compassion and gives herself the nurturing required in order to nurture others.
This is life-enhancing, self-improvement, and a work of love. This great love cannot be elicited from a husband, partner, lover or career.
