Earthquake strikes near Cayman

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded 32 miles off Cayman on Saturday morning, according to the U.S. Geological survey. 

The quake, which was recorded at 7:52 a.m at a depth of 6.2 miles, was located 32 miles south-southwest of George Town. 

Snug Harbour resident Lynne Firth said she felt the tremor.  

“I was lying in bed, when I felt the bed suddenly start shaking and almost as quickly as it began, it was over,” said Ms. Firth. “… It was only a small tremor, but unmistakable,” she added. 

This is the second small earthquake recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey near Cayman this month. The previous tremor struck two weeks ago at a magnitude of 4.2 and was located 146 miles southwest of George Town.

According to Simon Boxall of Hazard Management Cayman Islands, the local organization that deals with disasters, 911 received no reports of injuries or damage to structures.
