Serena Williams is aiming for more Grand Slam glory following her shock Wimbledon defeat on Saturday.
The five-time champion – who lost in three sets to 24th seed Alize Cornet of France – has won 17 Grand Slams. That is one behind Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova but five short of Steffi Graf’s open era record of 22.
Cornet had never beaten a top-20 player at a Grand Slam prior to the upset win over Williams.
The 32-year-old American said that every opponent produces the match of their lives when they play her and Cornet certainly did that.
Cornet, 24, had a confidence-boosting win over Williams in a low-key tournament in Dubai at the start of the year but this was still a shock.
The defeat by Cornet was only the third time in 15 Wimbledon appearance that Williams had lost in the early stages.
Her next chance for a major title will be in August when she defends her US Open crown.
