The food, which includes rice, beans, peas, cereals, canned tuna and meats, oats, porridges, soups, pasta, crackers, and more, will be distributed among families experiencing economic difficulties.

‘We’re most appreciative of this kind of donation from Curves and its members,’ DCFS Director Deanna Look Loy said.

‘The food will be distributed to our clients throughout the three islands. On behalf of government, I extend thanks to the Curves team for such a noble gesture.’

Grand Cayman’s Curves owners Robert and Diane Musselwhite said: ‘Our food drive promotion is always exciting because we have a chance to help some of the most vulnerable persons here.

‘It’s a win-win situation for everyone, and we’re very proud to participate.’

They added: ‘It is through the generosity of our members that we were able to accomplish our set goals and we thank them all for supporting this worthy cause. We aimed to gather 2,000 pounds of food, but this goal was actually exceeded.’

For four years, local Curves members have participated in a March-long food drive and as an additional incentive, the club offered a special discount to new members who brought in a bag of non-perishable groceries.

Cayman’s Curves Food Drive is part of Curves International Ltd. franchise international initiative, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.

In 2007 this initiative collected almost five million kilograms of food for local communities world-wide. This year, Curves has set their goal at 6.8 million kilograms to help even more people in need of healthy food.

Curves International, with 10,000 locations, is the largest fitness franchise in the world.
