A group of Junior Achievement students generously donated CI$425 of their recent profits to The Pines Retirement Home.
‘We decided as a team that we would rather share the proceeds we earned with The Pines as the work they do is so important,’ JA President Whitney General said in a press release. ‘Just like businesses assist the youth in Cayman through JA, it was an honour to have the chance to return the favour.’
JA uses hands-on experience to help young people understand the economics of life. The students created a company called Unique Dezingz which produced a host of seasonal products including bottled water, photos with Santa Claus and Valentine’s candies. The students were mentored by Cayman Islands-based business conglomerate dms Organization Ltd., which has been involved in the JA programme since 2006.
‘Junior Achievement is one of the most worthwhile business mentoring programmes for young people on the island, and dms continues to proudly contribute towards the education of our future business leaders,’ said dms JA advisor Catherine Rennie.
Pines Manager Sue Nicholson thanked dms and the students for their donation. The Pines is seeking to raise CI$5 million for a new building. The monies donated will assist towards meeting this target, she said.
