The Commonwealth Foundation will
host training sessions for members of civil society in the Cayman Islands all
week as part of an initiative to improve understanding of human rights in the
British Overseas Territories.
Cayman’s training sessions will be
getting started Monday at the Marriott Beach Resort and will run through
Friday.
The training sessions and times are
listed below.
Any members of civil society
organisations are welcome to attend, although space for the events is limited.
Monday – starting at 9am will be an all
day overview on human rights
Tuesday – 9am Human rights policy-making
and practice (government workers only)
1pm, Human rights, police and
prisons
Wednesday – 9am, Treaty body reporting
1pm, National human rights
institutions
Thursday – 9am, The role of
community-based organisations in protecting human rights
1pm, Court remedies and processes
in the enforcement of rights
4.30pm, Inclusion of rights in
education, treatment of children
Friday – 9am, Role of the media in
reporting on rights and freedom of expression
1pm – Wrap up session
