Mothersill relies on Corner and Welly’s for her tastiest treats

When
relaxing champion sprinting Cydonie Mothersill like nothing better than to just
crash out at home.

There
is no time nor energy for real hobbies. Catching up on Law & Order TV
episodes is a priority. Food wise, she likes Thai and Chinese and has always
enjoyed going to Corner and Welly’s.

“Mum’s
cooking is lovely but I love going down to Corner on Eastern Avenue for some fried
chicken and extra gravy. It’s delicious and their coleslaw is to die for. These
are the things you appreciate when you’re away. I love my mum’s cooking, of
course, there’s none like it. But every once in a while when I feel like it,
it’s Corner or Welly’s.” Her guilty snack pleasures include June plum, ginnep
and sugar cane.

Her
musical taste is varied, including gospel, old school reggae and r’n’b. Action
movies are her favourite genre, particularly anything that Denzel Washington,
Samuel L. Jackson and Brad Pitt are in.

“I
don’t like the new James Bond dude but I could watch the old ones forever.” Not
for her girly romantic-comedy films. In Miami she goes to the movies with
husband Ato constantly. She’s looking forward to Hangover 2 coming out.

African-American
authors, particularly Terry McMillan are her favourite read and she has also enjoyed
Bill Clinton’s biography and several John Grishams. Her all-time favourite is
Gifted Hands by Dr. Ben Carson, a black American who went from humble
beginnings to become a world renowned surgeon. “All I do when I’m not competing
is lounge around. I don’t have any energy to do anything else. My three
brothers and one nephew think I’m so boring.”

Favourite
places visited include Sydney, Australia and Beijing for shopping. Racing in
small meets in Italy reminds her of home and when in the Caribbean, Jamaica,
Bahamas and Trinidad are her favourites. “In the US I like the smaller town
like Clemson where I went to school and Auburn in Alabama, near the Georgia
border.”

Lucky
stadium? “Delhi is my lucky stadium now,” she laughs. “I enjoy competing in the
Caribbean most of all. It’s not so wearing on your body and the weather is
beautiful. In Europe in the warmer regions is best for athletes. I really love
to compete in my region. I was in Jamaica this year and the crowd! The stadium
was  packed to capacity.”
