Victoria Bise will run her third
toy drive for less fortunate children this holiday season.
Victoria, a Cayman International
School tenth-grader, will begin the toy roundup on Monday, 29 November.
“I really wanted to give something
back to Cayman,” she said. “I’ve always
been really inspired by charity work.”
The collection of toys will
continue until 14 December and she will distribute the gifts to the Paediatric
Ward and Children/Family Centre the following day.
Cash donations will also be
accepted and go toward gifts such a swim-with-dolphins experience and
para-sailing for teenagers.
Cash gifts will also be used to
meet the special needs of the Paediatric Ward, which needs DVD players, movies
and books.
Victoria has received support from
many businesses and individuals each year since she started in 2008.
Her mum, Veronique Bise, added that
the 2009 toy drive was unbelievable.
“The response was overwhelming with
over 750 donations given in support of the drive. The generosity of others was
truly amazing,” she said. “Our garage was completely covered with gifts piled
three deep. Thankfully, CICA, our loyal and repeat sponsor organised the
collection and delivery of them.”
Victoria, 15, talked about how she
got involved with this project.
“I am a kid, so I understand kids.
I love the excitement of Christmas morning,” she said. “If I can make a
difference for other children, then that is itself a Christmas present for me.
“Christmas isn’t Christmas without
a present to unwrap. It’s supposed to be a day where everyone is just generally
happy,” she added. “Families are going through such hard times now due to the
bad economy that I wanted to be able to help this year more than ever.”
Victoria plans to always do charity
work, eventually landing in Africa, where much help is needed. But for now, she
is focusing on making this year’s toy drive the most successful yet.
Presents can be dropped off,
unwrapped, to the attention of Victoria Bise at Cayman Islands Customs Agency
on Ashgo Street off Godfrey Nixon Way, opposite GT Automotive – BMW garage.
Group pickups can also be arranged from your home or office by calling
Victoria’s parents. Call Darrell at 925-5707 or Veronique at 926-5599.
Victoria accepts gifts for kids of
all ages, abiding by here motto:
“Everyone deserves a present at
Christmas.”
