Walkers has been named the Cayman Islands Law Firm of the Year for the second year running by the Who’s Who Legal Awards.
Walkers is the only Cayman Islands law firm to have ever received this honour, having won the inaugural award last year.
Using nominations received from clients and private practice professionals, Who’s Who Legal identified the leading law firm in 48 countries and five US states, states a press release.
The winners were formally announced in The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers 2007, a compendium edition of all the individual Who’s Who Legal publications.
The publication is the result of more than ten years of independent research incorporating feedback from thousands of lawyers, and covering over 7,000 practitioners across 27 separate practice areas and over 100 countries.
Who’s Who Legal is also the official research partner of the International Bar Association.
Editor in chief, Callum Campbell, said: ‘It is an outstanding achievement to win the Who’s Who Legal Cayman Islands Law Firm of the Year Award for a second time.
Walkers’ continuing success demonstrates its consistent and unparalleled level of individual and collective talent. We have no hesitation in declaring Walkers the leading firm in the Cayman Islands.”
In addition to identifying the overall leading firm, the awards also recognise the leading firm and individual in each practice area.
The partners at Walkers received sufficient nominations from their clients and peers to be listed 13 times across six practice areas in the publication, more than any other firm in the country.
The leading individuals listed were:
Capital Markets: Ian Ashman and Julian Black
Aviation: Ian Ashman and Hugh O’Loughlin
Insolvency & Restructuring: Guy Locke and Sandie Corbett
Commercial Litigation: Angus Foster and Jack Husbands
Private Funds: Mark Lewis, Jonathan Tonge, Iain McMurdo and Philip Millward
Business Crime: Diarmad Murray
Mr. Campbell also emphasized: ‘It is impossible to buy entry into this publication, financial considerations play no part in the selection process and only lawyers who have met independent international research criteria are listed. This book represents an accurate and impartial picture of the global private practice marketplace.’
Walkers’ partner, Mark Lewis, stated “This award is especially important as it is based purely on nominations received from clients and other private practice professionals. When we won the award last year we received ten listings in six different practice areas, this year we had 13 listings, which speaks volumes about the calibre of our attorneys and the consistently high quality of service that Walkers provides to clients on a global level.”
