Today’s Editorial October 11: Make plans to visit Expo

You may think it’s too soon to think about Christmas and all the shopping it entails.

But the Chamber of Commerce is giving you a heads up.

The Chamber of Commerce Business Expo 2006 officially opens to the public at noon Friday.

Those who go will be able to browse around booths allocated to 47 companies in 16 industry sectors.

The purpose of the annual expo is to expose you to businesses in the Cayman Islands so you’ll know what’s available for purchase here instead of trekking to the UK or US to buy your goods and wares.

The ultimate goal is to keep money in the Cayman Islands by buying locally.

The Expo is also a great place for start-ups and entrepreneurs to introduce themselves and for bigger businesses to launch new goods or services.

In addition to finding out what Cayman businesses have to offer, the Expo is a great place to possibly win some very nice prizes or take advantage of special offers.

Cay-Puzzles will discount 25 per cent of the purchase price of all jigsaw puzzles sold at the Expo.

Storage Solutions will offer a 15 per cent discount and Cayman Automotive is actually giving away an all-expense paid trip to the 2007 Daytona 500.

Cable and Wireless, one of the premier sponsors, will offer chances to win a 37-inch HDTV, Dell laptop or Sling Box when you sign up for some of its services.

The other premier sponsor, Cayman National, will give Expo-goers a chance to win loan consolidation and two payments deferred on mortgages and loans.

In addition to the opportunities to win prizes and sample goodies, there will be several demonstrations on Saturday to help you familiarize yourself with certain good and products.

The Expo begins at 9am Saturday.

Chamber members get a sneak preview of the Expo Thursday night. A nice change to this year’s Expo is that no children will be allowed on opening night because it is a night focused on conducting business.

Make plans to attend the Chamber of Commerce Business Expo this weekend.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised at all that is on offer in the Cayman Islands.
