Changing the face of George Town

The old West Wind Building in downtown George Town is getting a new look. Changes include a covered walkway for pedestrians and balconies with sliding glass doors for tenants on the upper floors.

Work on the Fort Street side is being done between 6pm and 3am so that blockage of the westbound lane does not unduly slow traffic.

Wendel Construction Company is doing the steel work and Mr. Wendel says this phase will take about a month.

Mr. John Rea, one of the building’s owners, said work on the facade would be completed before too long, but interior work, including electrical and air conditioning, could take up to a year.

Plans for the extensive renovations were made public in April 2005 after the building was purchased by IHC Properties in 2004.
