Delta makes emergency landing

Passengers en route to Atlanta from Costa Rica had an unexpected stop of five hours at Owen Roberts International Airport Thursday evening due to a technical problem on board their Delta airplane.

140 passengers were delivered to safety at Owen Roberts International Airport after a warning light alerted the pilot to a potential problem on board the passing Delta airlines flight.

The flight was en route from San Jose, Costa Rica, to Atlanta, Georgia.

Delta Airlines Station Manager Kevin Bolen said he was not at liberty to say what the problem turned out to be. It was a technical problem, he said.

However, according to Government Information Services, the pilot reported engine oil filter problems.

GIS reports that emergency services were put on alert Thursday afternoon for an aircraft emergency. The Delta Boeing 757 sent out an estimated time of arrival to the ORIA about 45 minutes before its arrival, and arrived on schedule at 5.15pm.

Another Delta Airlines airplane was sent to Grand Cayman Thursday evening from the airline’s base in Atlanta and it departed Grand Cayman with the passengers at 10.30pm Thursday.

‘Some of them wanted to stay,’ commented Mr. Bolen.

Delta Engineers were expected to arrive at ORIA Friday to fix the problem on the detained airplane.
